While Kimolos Island is tiny (only 16 square miles), there is still a lot to do and see here! In no particular order, here are ten must-do activities on Kimolos island.<\/p>\n

1) Visit Kastro Castle<\/h3>\n

Kastro is the most charming district of Chorio, the capital village of Kimolos. This area, which was once encircled by sturdy walls, boasts narrow streets and historic homes. Kastro means Castle in Greek and this was the only inhabited area of Kimolos until the end of the 19th century when houses started to be built outside the walls of the castle<\/p>\n

2) Explore The Main Town Of Chorio<\/h3>\n

Chorio, the central town of Kimolos, is a delightful Cycladic village (pop approx. 900 as of 2025), recognized for its whitewashed structures, narrow cobbled streets, and classic blue-domed churches.<\/p>\n

Visitors can explore the winding pathways, taking in the beautiful architecture and the vivid bougainvillea that embellish the charming courtyards. After exploring Chorio, wander down to the tiny harbor to have a drink or lunch seaside.<\/p>\n

3) Visit The Kimolos Archaeological Museum<\/h3>\n

The Archaeological Museum of Kimolos is located in Chorio, the island’s main village, and displays ancient artifacts unearthed at Ellinika beach, the island’s most renowned archaeological site. Inside the museum, you can find pottery, relics, funerary offerings, and other artifacts dating to the 8th and 7th centuries B.C.<\/p>\n

4) Hike<\/h3>\n

Exploring the hiking trails in Kimolos is one of the island’s top activities, thanks to its varied landscapes. This allows you to take in stunning views and immerse yourself in nature. A highly recommended hike leads to Agios Ioannis sto Lenio, a beautiful chapel perched on a hilltop with a view of the sea.<\/p>\n

Another picturesque route runs along the coast from Chorio to the beaches of Prassa and Aliki, showcasing rocky cliffs, secluded coves, and quaint fishing villages. For those who prefer a more demanding trek, the trail to the archaeological site of Ellinika offers a glimpse into the island’s ancient history, with ruins dating back to the Hellenistic era.<\/p>\n

5) Wander<\/h3>\n

One of the best things about Kimolos Island is that it is small and uncrowded. You can spend hours wandering the beautiful coastline stopping at tiny beach bars and restaurants along the way, while you take in the sparkling blue sea. This tiny island is so peaceful and stunning. Along your walk you might see a few locals – an array of cats and packs of goats being herded from one grazing spot to the next.<\/p>\n

6) Prassa Beach Day<\/h3>\n

Nestled along the northeastern coast of Kimolos in the Bay of Pigadi, the beach known as Prassa Beach (also called Agios Georgios) stands out for its almost surreal beauty: the shore is covered in coarse, chalk-white sand derived from local rock formations, and the sea glows in vivid turquoise hues thanks to the underlying white rocks.<\/p>\n

A key highlight is the water\u2019s clarity \u2014 Prassa is reputed to have some of the clearest water in the world<\/a><\/em>, making it a magnet for anyone wanting to simply bask in the beauty of the Aegean.  <\/span><\/p>\n

I spent an afternoon here during my four day stay on Kimolos Island and it was one of my favorite experiences during my trip. There is a small beach bar, White Bay, up a small hill from Prassa Beach where you can buy snacks, beer, cocktails and other cold drinks. After an afternoon here, head across the bay for lunch at Prasonisi<\/a>, a fun seaside restaurant serving up fresh seafood and authentic Greek dishes in a casual but idyllic setting. <\/p>\n

Kimolos is home to an array of beautiful beaches with amazingly clear water and golden sand. Notable other beaches include Aliki, Bonatsa, and Kalamitsi.<\/p>\n

Milos Island is just a short ten minute boat ride away, making it a great destination to include during your visit to Kimolos. Famous for its stunning beaches and charming towns, Milos is an essential stop on your Greece trip.<\/p>\n

The water surrounding Kimolos Island is claimed to be the clearest water in the world<\/em> making it perfect for snorkeling. Kimolos offers snorkeling at Ellinika Beach with ancient ruins, Mavrospilia with reefs, and Prassa with shallow waters and beginner-friendly conditions. <\/p>\n

If you want a specific destination to explore during your boat day, Poliegos is a great option. Poliegos is the largest uninhabited island in the Aegean Sea, situated southeast of Kimolos. You can take a boat trip to this picturesque location and discover its breathtaking landscapes.<\/p>\n

The island features a rugged coastline, striking cliffs, and hidden coves. Poliegos is also renowned for its distinctive geological formations and various archaeological sites, including ancient quarries and ruins.<\/p>\n
