Siargao is as close to paradise as it gets. This dreamy isle in the southern Philippines has long been whispered about by those who find themselves chasing waves and sunsets, and it\u2019s easy to see why it was once crowned “The Most Beautiful Island in Asia.” Even from the airplane window, as the turquoise coastline and endless palms come into view, you feel like you\u2019ve stumbled on something rare.<\/p>\n

Charted initially as Isla de las Palmas, the Island of Palm Trees, Siargao stays true to its name. Palm forests stretch as far as the eye can see, broken only by stretches of white sand and reef-lined waves.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s best known as the surfing capital of the Philippines, home to the legendary Cloud 9 break, but the magic of Siargao goes far beyond surf. Every corner of the island offers something to discover: lagoon escapes, jungle rivers, hidden coves, and a chain of offshore islands that feel like heaven scattered across the sea.<\/p>\n

Unlike the crowded shores of El Nido or Palawan, Siargao retains its laid-back charm and quiet authenticity. For now, at least, it remains a little more under the radar, one of those rare places where time slows down and tides, not clocks, measure life.<\/p>\n

What To Do On Siargao Island<\/h2>\n

1) Hop Between Islands and Coves Just Off Siargao’s Shores<\/h3>\n

One of my favorite ways to experience Siargao is by hopping over to the tiny islands and hidden coves that dot the coastline. You\u2019ll see plenty of “joiner” tours online, which are a fun and affordable way to explore if you\u2019re solo or on a budget.<\/p>\n

2) Tri-island Tour: Guyam Island, Naked Island and Daku Island<\/h3>\n

Just 15 minutes off the harbor in General Luna, you\u2019ll reach Guyam Island, a tiny private island open to the public. Think: coconut palms swaying in the breeze, a perfect circle of white sand, and clear turquoise water.<\/p>\n

Next up is Naked Island, a long sandbar with literally nothing on it. No trees, no huts, no shade… just powdery sand and endless blue water. It was actually my favorite stop of the day, and hands-down the best place for drone shots.<\/p>\n

Finally, you\u2019ll arrive at Daku Island, the largest of the three. It\u2019s a beautiful stretch of beach, and on the tours, this is typically where you spend the rest of the day. Lunch is included, and many people hang out until sunset.<\/p>\n

3) Take A Sohoton Cove Tour<\/h3>\n

Sohoton Cove is easily one of the most epic experiences in Siargao, and one of the dreamiest spots to fly a drone. Getting there is half the adventure: a 45-minute tuk-tuk ride from General Luna to Dapa Harbor, followed by a 90-minute boat ride out to Bucas Grande. From there, you\u2019ll hop in a van to another harbor, then board a second boat before finally arriving. It\u2019s a bit of a trek, but once you see it, you\u2019ll understand why it\u2019s worth every transfer.<\/p>\n

Picture this: emerald-blue water scattered with limestone islets, like a scene straight out of Avatar. Inside the cove, you\u2019ll visit a glowing bioluminescent cave, swim in the stingless jellyfish lagoon, and drift through the otherworldly scenery that makes this place so unforgettable.<\/p>\n

This tour is one I recommend booking in advance.<\/a><\/p>\n

4) Explore Sugba Lagoon<\/h3>\n

Sugba Lagoon sits within the same Bucas Grande chain as Sohoton, but it\u2019s much closer \u2014 only a quick 15-minute boat ride from Dapa Harbor. The ride itself is stunning, winding through emerald waters and weaving between little limestone islets before opening up into the lagoon.<\/p>\n

Here you\u2019ll find a vast, glassy expanse of turquoise water framed by jungle-covered cliffs. A wooden diving board juts out over the lagoon, and paddle boards and kayaks are available if you want to spend time exploring. It\u2019s lively but not overwhelming, making it one of those spots that feels playful yet peaceful at the same time.<\/p>\n

5) Visit The Magpupungko Rock Pools<\/h3>\n

About 45 minutes from General Luna, you\u2019ll find the Magpupungko Rock Pools, which are best to visit at low tide. As the tide pulls back, a series of crystal-clear turquoise pools appear, perfect for swimming and cliff jumping.<\/p>\n

After a dip, you can stretch out on the long white sand beach, sip a fresh coconut, and spend the rest of the afternoon just hanging out by the water.<\/p>\n

6) Take Photos At The Palm Viewpoint and Famous Palm Tree Road<\/h3>\n

There\u2019s no shortage of palm trees on Siargao; every road seems to be lined with them. But as you head north toward Pacifico or the airport, you\u2019ll come across the Palm Viewpoint, where thousands of coconut palms stretch out as far as you can see. It\u2019s one of those quick-stop spots that\u2019s totally worth pulling over for a photo.<\/p>\n

Keep driving along the same road and you\u2019ll hit the famous palm tree road, a perfectly lined stretch of coconuts that\u2019s become one of Siargao\u2019s most iconic photo ops.<\/p>\n

7) See The Rope Swing At Maasin Secret River<\/h3>\n

You\u2019ve probably seen the iconic palm tree rope swing hanging over a palm-lined river before. Unfortunately, as of 2025, the famous palm tree has broken and is no longer there, but you can still take a boat ride down the Maasin River, and it\u2019s wonderful.<\/p>\n

8) Surf At Cloud 9 Beach<\/h3>\n

Siargao is known as the surfing capital of the Philippines, with surf season running from July to December. The most famous break is Cloud 9, where a wooden pier stretches out over the reef \u2014 perfect for watching locals carve waves or catching a few yourself. It\u2019s the heart of Siargao\u2019s surf scene and a must whether you\u2019re paddling out or just soaking it all in from the boardwalk.<\/p>\n

9) Visit Secret Beach<\/h3>\n

Just 20 minutes from the heart of General Luna, Secret Beach is a tucked-away little cove framed by palms and gentle waves. It\u2019s often used as a spot for surf lessons, but it\u2019s just as perfect for stretching out under the trees and relaxing. Whether you\u2019re here to catch your first wave or unwind, this beach feels like a quiet escape from the busier spots around Siargao.<\/p>\n

Where To Stay In Siargao<\/h2>\n

General Luna is the heart of Siargao. It\u2019s a laid-back surf town full of cute cafes, little boutiques, and just enough nightlife to keep things fun. It\u2019s also the closest base to most of the island\u2019s sightseeing spots and the harbors for boat trips, so I\u2019d highly recommend staying here.<\/p>\n
