It\u2019ll tell you the fastest route between Point A and Point B, when trains are coming, and even which cars are least crowded. <\/span><span>Now you\u2019re ready to explore and your stomach\u2019s growling. Pizzas are in the $13-$16 range and pastas are $18-$25. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.meijinramen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Mei Jin Ramen<\/strong><\/a>: Authentic, underrated slurp spot on 2nd Avenue. Their Chili Chicken Ramen (my favorite) costs $14.50. Don\u2019t sleep on the shishito peppers, $9. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><a href=\"https:\/\/jgmelon-nyc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>J.G. Melon<\/strong><\/a>: This preppy-approved burger joint on 74th and 3rd (there are other locations, but the original one is the best) has been slinging out thick, juicy slabs of meat topped with a slice of American cheese since \u201872. A Cheeseburger goes for $12.25. Heralded by the MTA as \u201cthe largest permanent public art installation in state history\u201d, the Q Train features Instagram-worthy tile murals at its 63rd, 72nd, 86th, and 96th Street stations. They depict slices of modern New York life, and many were taken from photographs of actual New Yorkers of both the famous and every-day variety.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/second-avenue-subway-nyc-774x546.jpg\" alt=\"6 TIPS FOR THE BUDGET FOODIE IN NYC\" width=\"774\" height=\"546\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-25271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/second-avenue-subway-nyc-774x546.jpg 774w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/second-avenue-subway-nyc-1080x761.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/second-avenue-subway-nyc.jpg 1658w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 774px) 100vw, 774px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span>2) EAST VILLAGE<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span>You can\u2019t beat the East Village\/Alphabet City in terms of dining as well as nightlife. Indie and beyond hip, you\u2019d think this \u2018hood would have pulled a Williamsburg and sold out a long time ago, but it still retains more than a shred of authentic street cred in NYC. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>St. Mark&#8217;s Place is a dive bar mecca, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buabar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bua Bar<\/strong> <\/a>being the standout of the bunch with its exposed brick ambiance and lengthy happy hour ($8 cocktails until 8PM, M-F). Opt for the Mezcal Mule for a smokier take on its more buttoned-up sister drink, the Moscow Mule. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Get your noodle fix at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/xianfoods.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Xian Famous Foods<\/a><\/strong>: This small chain noodle shop (East Village location on St. Mark\u2019s and 1st) is nothing short of a New York phenomenon. A bowl of their famous hand-pulled noodles will run under $10.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Xian-famous-foods-NYC-774x1030.jpg\" alt=\"6 TIPS FOR THE BUDGET FOODIE IN NYC\" width=\"774\" height=\"1030\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-25274\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Xian-famous-foods-NYC-774x1030.jpg 774w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Xian-famous-foods-NYC-1080x1437.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Xian-famous-foods-NYC.jpg 1376w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 774px) 100vw, 774px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span>3) QUEENS<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span>I know that\u2019s so Manhattan of me to group an entire borough into one neighborhood, but Queens is often omitted in discussions of NYC tourism despite being a culinary mecca. Queens\u2019 eats were recently celebrated on Parts Unknown, with Anthony Bourdain calling Queens a \u201cwonderland\u201d of food. <\/span><span>Aside from Bourdain\u2019s suggestions, here are some good-value Queens must-tries: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shanghaiyougarden.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shanghai You Garden<\/a><\/strong>: Authentic Flushing dim sum at its finest. An order of six steamed pork buns will set you back $5.75. Cash only. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sripraphai.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>SriPraPhai<\/strong><\/a>: Many consider SriPraPhai the best Thai restaurant in New York. Green Papaya Salad: $9.50; Pad Thai: $11; Green Curry, $12.50. Cash only. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><strong>Casa Enrique<\/strong>: Just one stop from Grand Central on the 7 train, this Mexican joint serves up creative and casual-chic fare that manages to be wallet-friendlier than most of its Michelin-starred brethren. It\u2019s a waffle\u2026shaped like a fish\u2026with a gooey chocolate (or Nutella, or red bean) filling. I got mine at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/delimanjoo-new-york-6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Delimanjoo<\/strong><\/a>, a stall inside a food court on 32nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/taiyaki-fish-koreatown-nyc-774x1033.jpeg\" alt=\"6 TIPS FOR THE BUDGET FOODIE IN NYC\" width=\"774\" height=\"1033\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-25273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/taiyaki-fish-koreatown-nyc-774x1033.jpeg 774w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/taiyaki-fish-koreatown-nyc.jpeg 969w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 774px) 100vw, 774px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span>5) JUST SAY BRUNCH<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span>Brunch might as well be the <em>official<\/em> meal of NYC. Don\u2019t be basic and hit up the first spot with a &#8216;bottomless&#8217; sign out front. Many brunch deals are brunch duds in disguise, but some restaurants have made an art of the mid-day meal. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>One of my favorite brunch spots is <a href=\"http:\/\/jacobs.picklehospitality.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jacob\u2019s Pickles<\/strong><\/a> on the Upper West Side: Their gigantic portions of Southern-inspired cuisine will stick to your ribs (try the Chicken and Pancakes, $16) and their Bloody BLTs (served with Tito\u2019s Vodka and a strip of bacon, $13) are some of New York\u2019s finest.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Brooklyn-bridge-nyc-774x534.jpg\" alt=\"6 TIPS FOR THE BUDGET FOODIE IN NYC\" width=\"774\" height=\"534\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-25262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Brooklyn-bridge-nyc-774x534.jpg 774w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Brooklyn-bridge-nyc-1080x744.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Brooklyn-bridge-nyc.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 774px) 100vw, 774px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span>6) SWEAT IT OUT <\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span>After all that eating, take heart that many of New York\u2019s quintessential experiences will only cost you calories. <\/span><span>Central Park, while touristy, lives up to the hype. It\u2019s used by thousands of New Yorkers daily as a place to run, bike, in-line skate, walk their dogs, have a picnic, or just to get outside and pretend they\u2019re in real nature. The entire loop is just under 10k (6.2 miles) and features rolling hills, but if that length of a run is too extra for a vacation, you\u2019ll find the Jackie Onassis Reservoir and its 1.5-mile looped path around 86th Street.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/central-park-Jackie-o-reservoir-NYC-774x561.jpg\" alt=\"6 TIPS FOR THE BUDGET FOODIE IN NYC\" width=\"774\" height=\"561\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-25263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/central-park-Jackie-o-reservoir-NYC-774x561.jpg 774w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/central-park-Jackie-o-reservoir-NYC-1080x783.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/central-park-Jackie-o-reservoir-NYC.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 774px) 100vw, 774px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span>Hidden within Central Park is the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.centralparktoursnyc.com\/conservatory-garden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Conservatory Garden<\/a>. I had no clue this place existed until I had lived on the Upper East Side for a couple of years! Think of it as New York&#8217;s own Secret Garden minus all the sickly invalids and poor parenting (oh, heck, it&#8217;s the Upper East Side, there&#8217;s probably plenty of both).
