Everyone loves talking about going to Croatia, island hopping, and exploring the magically scenery of the coastline. However, more people should go inland to visit the amazing blue lakes and pristine national parks. Krka is most famous for its series of 7 waterfalls and mini cascades. The National Park is nestled in southern Croatia along the Krka River; eventually leading you to the bay front town of Sibenik and again back out into open waters.<\/p>\n<h4><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19905\" src=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Krka-swimming-Croatia.jpg\" alt=\"THERE'S MORE TO CROATIA THAN JUST BEACHES\" width=\"1142\" height=\"763\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Krka-swimming-Croatia.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Krka-swimming-Croatia-774x517.jpg 774w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Krka-swimming-Croatia-120x80.jpg 120w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Krka-swimming-Croatia-500x334.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1142px) 100vw, 1142px\" \/><\/h4>\n<h4>BUYING TICKETS<\/h4>\n<p>Tickets to Krka National Park can be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parkovihrvatske.hr\/webshop?p_auth=ukuWox7k&amp;p_p_id=webshop_WAR_parcsportlet&amp;p_p_lifecycle=1&amp;p_p_state=normal&amp;p_p_mode=view&amp;p_p_col_id=svi-portleti&amp;p_p_col_count=1&amp;_webshop_WAR_parcsportlet_javax.portlet.action=viewParkTicketsList&amp;ticketParkId=krka\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bought online<\/a> for convenience sake when its high season, but we bought ours on arrival with no trouble. As of 2019, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.np-krka.hr\/stranice\/pricelist-2019-individual-visitors\/337\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tickets prices<\/a> vary based on the time of year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>June, July, August &amp; September: 200 KN (~$30 USD) or 150 KN (~$23 USD) if entering after 4 pm<\/li>\n<li>April, May &amp; October: 100 KN (~$15 USD)<\/li>\n<li>January, February, March, October, November, December: 30 KN (~$5 USD)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>WHEN TO VISIT KRKA PARK<\/h4>\n<p>Best advice is to get to Krka early to beat the midday crowds! When you arrive a shuttle bus will take you to the main entrance of the park, here you can look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.np-krka.hr\/stranice\/guide-to-krka-national-park\/44\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">map<\/a> and decide where to begin a pleasant stroll through the forestry alongside the river and mini cascades. A stunning backdrop of a seven tier waterfall, with bright blue river water and lush green mountains.<\/p>\n<p>The best part, you can swim in the river! It&#8217;s such a surreal feeling and such a peaceful way to really enjoy nature. Around the swimming hole, there are refreshments stands where you can buy something yummy to eat (such as Nutella crepes) or something refreshing to drink. It&#8217;s situated halfway between Zadar and Zagreb with regular bus schedules passing through. Since Plitvice Lakes are so famous, there is tons of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/searchresults.en.html?landmark=264892&amp;aid=1435586&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accommodation<\/a> around the area and depending on when you book, all for a decent price.<\/p>\n<h4>GETTING TO PLITVICE LAKES<\/h4>\n<p>If you are passing through or can\u2019t afford to spend the night; one day is plenty of time to see everything and fully appreciate its beauty. The park consists of a series of 16 lakes, each connected by picturesque waterfalls.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s buried deep in the woodland area of the mountains, which hosts a variety of animal species such as deer, bears, wolves, boars, and very rare bird species. The lakes are divided PLinto two parts, Upper and Lower; each with its own park entrance. For parking, in case you are coming in your own car, it cost about 7 Kuna per hour.<\/p>\n<h4>HOURS<\/h4>\n<p>The Park is open daily all year round, with longer opening hours during summer. As of 2019, the Park&#8217;s hours are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Summer (June to August): 7:00 am to 8:00 pm<\/li>\n<li>Autumn (September to November): 7:00 am to 7:00 pm<\/li>\n<li>Winter (December to February): 8:00 am to 4:00 pm<\/li>\n<li>Spring: (March to May): 8:00 am to 8:00 pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As always, be sure to check the official <a href=\"https:\/\/np-plitvicka-jezera.hr\/en\/operating-hours-and-seasons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">opening hours<\/a> in case this changes.<\/p>\n<h4>TICKETS<\/h4>\n<p>There\u2019s an entrance fee which is used for the Park\u2019s upkeep and protection. The ticket prices depend on the season, so be sure to check the official <a href=\"https:\/\/np-plitvicka-jezera.hr\/en\/plan-your-visit\/price-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ticket price website<\/a> for the latest information.<\/p>\n<p>As of 2019, ticket prices for adults are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>January to March and in November and December: 60 Kuna (\u00a37\/\u20ac8\/$9)<\/li>\n<li>April to June and in September and October: 100 Kuna (\u00a312.50\/\u20ac13.50\/$15)<\/li>\n<li>July and August: 250 Kuna (\u00a330\/\u20ac34\/$37)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can buy your <a href=\"https:\/\/ticketing.np-plitvicka-jezera.hr\/Index.aspx?l=EN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tickets online<\/a> from the Park website.<\/p>\n<h4><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19911\" src=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Plitvice-lower-path.jpg\" alt=\"THERE'S MORE TO CROATIA THAN JUST BEACHES\" width=\"1150\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Plitvice-lower-path.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Plitvice-lower-path-774x517.jpg 774w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Plitvice-lower-path-120x80.jpg 120w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Plitvice-lower-path-500x334.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1150px) 100vw, 1150px\" \/><\/h4>\n<h4>WHAT TO SEE IN PLITVICE LAKES PARK<\/h4>\n<p>We started at PlitviceLakes <a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/sAXiHmfX3XvQZaTV6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Entrance One<\/a> to get a grand view of the Veliki Slap (Large Waterfall) and worked our way to the upper falls. Going to the lower lakes early in the morning is the best advice for skipping the swarms of crowds.<\/p>\n<p>We walked literally all day, bringing packed lunches with us to save money and not spending it at the overpriced cafes and restaurants. We saw so many flora and fauna that I have never personally seen before.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19912\" src=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Plitvice-upper-cascades.jpg\" alt=\"THERE'S MORE TO CROATIA THAN JUST BEACHES\" width=\"1115\" height=\"745\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Plitvice-upper-cascades.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Plitvice-upper-cascades-774x517.jpg 774w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Plitvice-upper-cascades-120x80.jpg 120w, https:\/\/wearetravelgirls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Plitvice-upper-cascades-500x334.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1115px) 100vw, 1115px\" \/><br \/>\nUnlike Krka, you are not allowed to swim in these lakes. The porous rock called tufa is highly susceptible to organic substances contaminating the water, therefore its was decided in order to protect the fragile ecosystem no swimming and limited human influence was implemented.<\/p>\n<p>But it doesn\u2019t take away from its beauty at all.
